To be a part of seeing a woman entrepreneur’s business idea become reality is nothing less than thrilling! That’s why I’m so excited to be hosting Her Own Business to help women create a business model designed around them to successfully launch their passion into profit.
My own entrepreneurial journey started at age 10. I was inspired by my older brother who was born with Cerebral Palsy, and I organized a neighborhood carnival event with the proceeds benefitting Cerebral Palsy research. I channeled that entrepreneurial spirit into my professional career and created my own position at a global pharmaceutical company, helping doctors start and build their own elective surgery practices.
In the transition from being an employee to a business owner, I felt pressured that I should be doing everything myself. Instead, I approached my own business as if I were advising a client, and I released myself from feeling obligated to old paradigms. I had gained expertise in business development and certified job matching and used the tools I had learned to create and design my business around myself. I’ll admit, it wasn’t easy to release my feelings of control and shame, knowing that I couldn’t fill every role in a business; but seriously, who can? Through my personal experience, I was inspired to start Better Job Fit, Inc., and help other people think differently about themselves, their roles and opportunities in business.
I use the tools of artificial intelligence, objective job-matching science and customized coaching to help women by revealing the 95% of what they don’t know about themselves and their options for transitioning into different career roles or building a business. Objective job-matching science provides unknown options, opening doors to some of the most unusual combinations.
Here’s an example of how job-matching made a great impact: I was working with foster care alumni. While preparing a young man for college, it was determined he was a 95% match to a graphic designer and a correctional officer. I asked him two questions: “Do you want to go to work wearing a nice dress shirt and pants and be around colleagues?” or “Do you want to go to work wearing a uniform with a gun and be around prisoners?”
An executive who was preparing to retire from her position as a Global Director at Texas Instruments liked beading, working with beads, making necklaces, bracelets, etc. Her intention was to spend $1 million on a “brick-and-mortar” store. When I asked her what roles she thought she should play in her business, she said she could, “Do it all.” After comparing her job-match profile against the other jobs of a brick-and-mortar retail business (like sales and maintenance), it was clearly determined that it would be best for her to create an online bead business and teach a monthly “Technology and Beading” class at a local craft store. This not only saved her from losing a $1 million investment, it also secured her happiness for the next stage of her life.
