Now that Thanksgiving is over and you’ve enjoyed the last slice of pumpkin pie, you’re ready to get your Black Friday shoppin’ on!
Before you step into that mall, may I offer you a few budgeting tips to make your shopping experience more successful and less stressful.
To begin with, set a realistic budget. Decide how much you are willing to spend for the items that are on sale.
Avoiding impulse purchases is doable, just make a list in advance of what you want to buy. The deals may be tempting but remember, if it’s not something you need, buying it on sale doesn’t mean you are actually saving money.
Shoppers will be inundated with “Sale ends soon!” and “Limited quantities available!” signs. These “sales tools” are designed to lure customers in to the store to buy more. You’ll even start to see these same messages in your email to entice online shoppers.
Research the prices now on the items you intend to buy. Doing that helps you be prepared to not overspend. When the sales start, check to make sure they are actually discounted. Not all Black Friday deals are good ones.
Use this time to be proactive. Don’t limit your shopping to just the holidays. If you have birthdays or weddings coming up over the next few months, Black Friday deals are a great opportunity to save some money on those gifts.
One more tip: Be sure you have eaten and are well-hydrated before you head out on your shopping excursion.
