Hey everyone! It has been two weeks of practicing being in the present moment. Let us learn about Yogini’s two-week journey to “Be in the Present Moment.”

Big sister: Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. Be in the present moment. Yoginiyou stayed in the village for two weeks. Did you like it?

Yogini: I am on vacation for two months. I loved it, and I am cherishing each moment.

Big sister: It is so good to know that you love it here.

Yogini: Of course. I was practicing the first step of the three-step secret formula: “Be in the Present Moment.

Big sister: Yes, how was your journey?

Yogini: For the first couple of days, I couldn’t focus. After the third and fourth days, I got a handle on it.

Big sister: The focus threshold may vary depending on the individual. It may take two days for some people. For others, it may take a week or so. The goal is never to quit. Keep on doing it.

Yogini: I agree with you. In the beginning, I was randomly choosing some time and working on my hobbies. It wasn’t working. Then, I changed the strategy to stick to the same time of the day. That helped.

Big sister: You are right. Suppose we practice working on the hobby at the same time every day; then it will be effortless, eventually.

Yogini: Yep, that is what happened.

Big sister: Furthermore, this habit would enable us to be in the present moment in whatever we do. Did you notice that?

Yogini:  Absolutely!! At times, I started witnessing what I was thinking and how I was breathing.

Big sister: Certainly!!

Yogini: The first step of the secret formula was so beneficial. It was fun to focus on myself.

Big sister: Great to know that!

Yogini: What is the second step of the secret formula?

Big sister: You are already doing it.

Yogini: I am??

Big sister:  Yep. The second step of the secret formula is “Mindfulness.” In the first step of the secret formula “Be in the Present Moment,” you’ve already started the Mindfulness, i.e., the M of mindfulness is part of the Present Moment.

Yogini: What a connection between the first and second step of the three-step secret formula!! Could you explain how to practice Mindfulness?

Big sister: Sure, let’s get started. There are so many ways to practice mindfulness daily. I will explain three of the methods.

Mindful Eating

  1. Take a grape
  2. Sit in one place (Either cross-legged or on a chair)
  3. Close your eyes
  4. Slowly eat the grape
  5. When chewing the grape, feel the sensation of the juice and the grape all around your mouth

Mindful Thinking

  1. Sit in one place (Either cross-legged or on a chair)
  2. Close your eyes
  3. Observe the thoughts in your mind
  4. Do not cling to any thoughts
  5. Allow your thoughts to move on

Mindful Breathing

  1. Sit in one place (Either cross-legged or on a chair)
  2. Close your eyes
  3. Observe your breathing
  4. Observe the movement of your breath

Yogini: Wow!! This is exciting. Do I have to follow all of these or just one of them?

Big sister: It is up to you.

Yogini: Any recommendations??

Big sister:  My best advice is to start with one and slowly add different methods after three days. For example, start with Mindful Eating for two days – the 1st and 2nd days. Then, in addition to Mindful Eating, add Mindful Thinking on the 3rd and 4th days. Furthermore, add Mindful Breathing on the 5th and 6th days. Then, continue with all three methods daily from the 7th till the 14th day.

Yogini: Sounds perfect.

Big Sister: We will talk about the third step after your 14 days of Mindfulness practice.

Yogini: Thank you, my wise sister. I am excited to experience Mindfulness, and I shall tell you all about it in two weeks’ time!
