Laughing Through Life: International Moment of Laughter Day

“Laughter comes right after breathing as just about the healthiest thing you can do. It relieves stress, instills optimism, raises self-confidence, defuses resistance to change, and enhances all your relationships. Best of all, this priceless medicine is fun, free, and easy to use.” – Izzy Gesell

April 14 marks International Moment of Laughter Day, a celebration of joy dating back to 1997. This day was created by author and humor consultant Izzy Gesell, who described laughing out loud as being just about as essential as breathing.

Personally, laughing makes me forget about all of life’s challenges. This simple action encourages me to maintain a positive outlook on life and relish the present moment. As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to notice that life tends to get more serious, and it’s that much more crucial that I intentionally seek out opportunities to laugh. One thing is certain: laughter truly is the best medicine. It’s universal and can be shared with anyone regardless of their background.

The purpose of this day is to be intentional in your laughing. I’m sure you’re aware it does wonders! Think about the last time you howled with laughter. How did you feel? Take some time today to do something that will make you giggle, grin, or crack up. You deserve it! I personally love watching stand-up comedy. What do you enjoy doing that makes you chuckle or smile?
