Holiday Stress and How to Minimize it

Dec 24, 2020 | 0 comments

Holidays are the best time of the year. This is the time when the family comes together and shares stories. It’s this time when we give and receive gifts and spread the love. Apart from the laughter and joy, holidays are times when stress can also be present. How can you minimize stress and enjoy this time together?

Here are some tips to help you with that:

Set boundaries: Setting boundaries can be a very tricky thing to do but, trust me, that is what will give you peace of mind. You don’t have to be rude; your words have to show love while still conveying the message.

Get moving: Going outside for a walk or exercising is helpful. You can do anything, just move. When you exercise, the body produces endorphins. These happy hormones help in reducing pain and bringing a positive feeling to the body which in turn will elevate your mood.

Take in enough zzz’s: Sleep is a particularly important part of helping to reduce stress. Studies recommend getting 8 hours of good sleep, but even if you get 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep that is also helpful.

Increase your intake of greens: We have all heard that eating green vegetables is good for us but eating them during stressful times is incredibly beneficial. The green leafy vegetable product dopamine, a pleasure-inducing brain chemical, helps you to keep calm and thus lets you enjoy all those special moments.

Lastly, but most important: Enjoy your family time. Have fun running around the house with the kids, relish eating breakfast in bed, set no alarms, and let these times become memories that will stay with you forever.
