National Goof Off Day: It’s Your Time to Play, Relax or Just Have Some “Me” Time

When I was a teenager, my favorite movie was Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. If you haven’t seen the movie, the premise is this: a spunky teen named Ferris decides that he needs a day off and since teens cannot have fun alone, he invites his girlfriend and his uptight best friend to join him in skipping school. Well, of course, shenanigans ensues but somehow, some way everything works out for Ferris in the end. The main reason I loved this movie was because I was two things as a teenager: a dreamer and a worrier. So even though I was a daydreamer, I worried about my lack of focus. Ferris Bueller let me know that it’s ok to take a day off. Which is exactly why we need National Goof Off day.

March 22nd is National Goof Off day. A day to do whatever you want, well within reason. Please don’t commit any crimes or hurt anyone. National Goof Off day is a day to literally goof off. Do something fun! This is your day to be like Ferris and take a day to have some harmless fun. In case you need some ideas, here are a few:

  • Take a day off work (if possible) and do something fun; leave work until tomorrow.
  • Have a paper airplane contest. Gather your family, make paper airplanes and see whose plane goes the farthest.
  • Watch or rewatch a comedy, the silliest, goofiest comedy you can find.
  • De-stress. Take today and relax, draw a bath, light some candles, treat yourself to a day of relaxation.
  • Test out some jokes that you’ve kept in your back pocket.

Whatever you choose to do on National Goof Off day, just have fun. Put yourself first, have fun and don’t stress about having fun.
